Today we drove Mamie home. She came to the Anastasis two weeks ago to have a VVF operation. (A VVF is a hole that forms in a woman's ummm...body when she's stuck in a prolonged childbirth. They can sometimes be in labor for days because they don't have proper medical care. Usually the baby dies. Then the woman can't help but leak urine and feces continually.) Mamie went to every hospital in Monrovia and nobody could help her. She leaked for four years. Now after two weeks on the Anastasis she is dry. And full of life. Her smile says it all. Mamie's whole story will be featured in an upcoming video. The other stories we've been working on are 1) Ship engineers helping to get local water plant working again, no running water anywhere in Liberia 2) Local people learn basics of agriculture, how to care for God's creation and break the cycle of hunger and poverty 3) Mariama's tumor story. There was a day where I feared we wouldn't be able to get one story out of our trip. So I'm really glad we were able to change our tickets. Now we've extended our stay again to help shoot a bunch of footage for a German TV show. It's been a great time on the old ship and I really love Liberia. But I'm ready to go back to Texas now. The present plan is to leave here Sunday night and be back in Texas by Monday night, provided we don't get stranded somewhere along the way. Say a prayer.
